SOUTH STRABANE, Pa. -- Two men from Peters Township, arrested over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in connection with the theft of exotic handguns from an Ace Sporting Goods store in South Strabane, will stand trial for the theft.Steve Parks, 19, and Michael A. Mittell, 20, were in court on Tuesday for a hearing.South Strabane police Detective John Bruner said someone broke into the store on Washington Road through a roof vent, then fell 20 feet through some drywall and into the showroom on Nov. 16.
After the fall, the burglar broke into a display case and stole two .44-caliber Desert Eagle semiautomatic handguns -- one black and one chrome -- and a .450-caliber Magnum Research stainless steel revolver, Bruner said.Police allege that Parks broke into the store and Mittell was his getaway driver, but police have not recovered the stolen weapons."When he left the scene, he left behind an important piece of evidence. He left behind a blue welding glove that we believe may spark someone's memory," Bruner said. The glove is imprinted with the words "Black Stallion." Police said the glove, and the fact that the burglar may have needed medical care after his fall, were expected to yield tips from the public.Parks and Mittell are each being held in the Washington County jail on $25,000 cash bond.
