Sheldon Ingram

General Assignment Reporter

Sheldon Ingram is from Atlantic City, N.J. He is a proud graduate of Atlantic City High School.

Sheldon went on to study journalism at Morris Brown College in Atlanta, where he continued to play football, sang in the gospel choir, taught adult literacy and served as Student Government president and vice president.

Sheldon joined WTAE-TV Channel 4 in May 1992. Before that, Sheldon served as an intern-reporter for CNN in Atlanta. He moved on to his first reporting and anchoring job with WRCB-TV in Chattanooga, Tenn. After 11 months, Sheldon moved on to become a reporter and fill-in anchor at WVEC-TV in Norfolk, Va. Sheldon spent four years in Norfolk before coming to WTAE.

Since then, Sheldon has covered a wide variety of high-profile stories that magnified Pittsburgh's growth, weaknesses and strengths, from race relations to Pittsburgh's evolving industry structure and politics. Some of Sheldon's high-impact stories include a three-part series on juvenile boot camps, the controversial Jonny Gammage death while in police custody, the fiercely controversial stadium issue behind Heinz Field and PNC Park, the impeachment of former Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Rolf Larsen and the drastic changes of US Airways. He was also the talk show host of "Inside Pittsburgh."

Sheldon strongly believes that WTAE Channel 4 Action News is, hands down, among the elite news operations in the country.

"I believe we possess the best news minds anywhere," he says. "From top to bottom, we are very deep and focused in our approach to news, aggressive but sensitive too. We believe in the interest of our viewers and we want our viewers to believe in our devotion to news."

Sheldon embraces diversity and community involvement. He is currently on the board of advisors for The Homeless Children Defense Fund, Every Child Adoption Agency. He is a member of the Community Council For Big Brothers Big Sisters and chairs their annual Bowling For Kids Sake fund raising project. Sheldon also volunteers at the Children's Institute.

Sheldon is extremely proud of his son, Sheldon Lamark Ingram Jr. Sheldon affectionately calls him "Little Shel," although he's as big as his dad.

As a born-again Christian, Sheldon is devoted to good health and fitness. He is active with weightlifting, aerobics, spinning, salsa dancing, roller blades, skiing, flag football, cooking and Spanish lessons.

Sheldon also has two exotic Bengal cats, Diego and Cezar (say-zar). They are five generations removed from the Asian Wild Leopard Cat.
